Harvest 2001
The English hop harvest is now virtually complete, and the weather has been kind with hardly any wind or rain to spoil the quality. Yields are slightly down on average, mainly caused by the excessive rain we had last winter, but the quality is very good. The dwarf varieties have performed very well, enabling the growers to pass their cost savings onto the brewers.

Prices - Crop 2001
Prices are now settling down with the substantial increases in US hops now affecting the English and European markets.

Our US price list has now been mailed out through Crosby & Baker Ltd. and reflects some slight increases on certain varieties but others, notably Fuggle remaining the same.

Product availability from Crop 2001
Crop 2001 will be available as from late October to early November.

US variety substitution
We are often asked about substitution of US varieties as prices and availability are causing concern amongst US brewers. So we list below our views on substitutions for the main US varieties.

Cascade First Gold, Bramling Cross and Challenger First Gold used in conjunction with Cascade would be a good solution, but use the First Gold early in the boil and finish with Cascade.

US Fuggle English Fuggle English Fuggle now more competitive than US
